Hello and welcome to our website.
I’ve lived and worked in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland for 60 years and started Galloway Cycling Holidays in 2004. I’d just retired as a policeman and thought my knowledge and passion for the region and love of cycling was an ideal combination to create inspiring cycle tours in the area. I’m pleased to say that over the past 12 years we’ve provided cycling holidays for many satisfied customers from around the world.
We are fortunate that the Galloway region is acclaimed as one of the top cycling regions in the UK and the pedal cycle was invented here in 1840 by Kirkpatrick Macmillan. Several of our tours visit the old smithy. Also, in September 2016, the first stage of the Tour of Britain cycle race started in Glasgow and finished in Castle Douglas – the only location out with London to have hosted more stage finishes over the years. Have a look at our reviews.
The business operates from our base in Castle Douglas. My wife, Tina, runs our stylish B&B in Castle Douglas, Summerhill which we use for at least the first night’s accommodation on most of our cycle tours. It works well to host the welcome meeting to go over the tour information and bike fit after arrival. An example of how we are a wee bit different from the big operators is that if you arrive by mid-afternoon (usually the day before the tour start day) you can take a free ‘acclimatisation trip’ to nearby iconic Threave Castle (on a river island accessed by boat) and / or Threave Garden (National Trust for Scotland), one of the top Gardens in Scotland. You can then stop in at our local brewery for a beer or one of the many cafes in our ‘food town’ on return. A good way to acclimatise I think!
