What’s Included on a Tour
Pre-tour Contact– as a smaller cycling tour operator, you deal only with Robin to discuss your requirements. We therefore have the flexibility to discuss your cycling holiday preferences in detail, including assisting with your arrival and departure arrangements.
Arrival and Departure– there are various means of getting to us. Easiest is by train to Lockerbie (1 hour from Glasgow and Edinburgh and 4 hours from London). We can use our 7 seat Mercedes minibus to pick you up from there. For budget transport, a daily London to Belfast coach stops in Castle Douglas, our base.
Welcome Meeting– at your arrival accommodation. We go over your cycling holiday information pack and can answer any questions you have.
Information Pack- includes coloured route maps, local information about places of interest along the routes as well as leaflets on attractions.
Accommodation– We use a variety of tried and tested accommodation in our region of various standards from top quality B&B’s to top quality hotels, depending on the tour chosen. Our own five star Tripadvisor rated Summerhill B&B is used for your first night's accommodation, subject to availability.
Support Service- if any problems occur - contact us by mobile phone. If practical during luggage transfer, we make a point of stopping and checking you are ok.
Luggage Transfer– For flexibility and the best security, we take care of this using our own personnel and vehicles. We do not employ taxis.
Additional Services- We specialise in being flexible to your requirements so let us know if you require extra services and we will arrange if possible.
What’s NOT INCLUDED on a cycle tour
Cycle hire– you can bring your own cycle or hire a cycle from us at extra cost – usually £15 per day or less for longer tours. We provide good quality hybrid bikes with rear rack bags and helmets (both free) if required.
Lunches and Evening meals– Our selected accommodation is always in small towns and villages with hotels and restaurants for your evening meal. This allows you the flexibility to choose where you want to eat, with advice given by us or your local accommodation provider.
Entry Fees– to castles, gardens etc during a tour. Entry to attractions are not mandatory, with free entry to the tea rooms and restaurants.
Packed Lunches– we can supply a packed lunch if required although our bike tours usually have lunch stops at tea rooms or food pubs.

We are increasingly asked to provide our tour itinerary routes, after booking, on GPX files. We can do this, although the maps and tour information we provide are easy to follow and can also include short-cut, ‘extra miles’ or other detour options depending on your interests after we have a chat at the welcome meeting.
Repairs- If you are not familiar with changing a puncture, it is part of the support service and we will travel to do the repair for you. We are also able to otherwise repair or replace any faulty bikes while on tour.
As well as Castle Douglas, our base, having three bike shops, other towns which our bike tours pass through also have bike shops which can assist with ongoing repairs or replacements on the very few occasions if necessary
We offer to transfer your luggage between overnight accommodation places. We do this ourselves to ensure security of your belongings - we don't use taxis or other transport means.
Cycle Route Gradings
Easy– Fairly flat with easy hills terrain - suitable for all ages and fitness.
Moderate- A mixture of terrain with some hills. Suitable for those with a reasonable fitness.
Challenging– Some longer or steeper uphill rides. A good level of fitness is required. The few steep hills are never more than half a mile so they can easily be walked if too challenging.
Transport - pickup service
Our region is in the South West corner of Scotland and is easily accessible from central Scotland, Northern England, London (daily London bus) and Belfast in Northern Ireland. We are based in the market town of Castle Douglas which is situated in the centre of the region.
With our 7 seat Mercedes minibus we are able to pickup from Lockerbie and Dumfries railway stations as part of our service, and for groups at airports or seaports.
Ways to Get to Castle Douglas
Castle Douglas is by-passed by the A75 road which runs through the region. It is an easy drive from most cities in the north of England, via the M6 and Central Scotland via the A74. We are 1 hour from Carlisle and Stranraer and 2 hours from Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Dumfries and Lockerbie railway stations are closest to arrive at our base in Castle Douglas. Dumfries is half an hour away and is on the line between Glasgow and Carlisle. Lockerbie is three quarters of an hour away and on the main west coast UK line between London Euston and Glasgow. Lockerbie is 1 hour from Edinburgh by train and a popular option to reach us. We are able to pick you up at the railway station and bring you to our base in the market town of Castle Douglas.
Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle airports are around a 2 hour drive from Castle Douglas. We suggest after arrival at these airports, take the regular airport bus to the city centre - under 1/2 an hour - and take a train to either Lockerbie or Dumfries from where we can pick you up.
There is a daily overnight bus from London to Belfast and return. Times currently are: Depart Victoria coach station at 0900 and 1700 with arrival at Castle Douglas at 1735 and 0215.
